Esotericism

What was the social/psychological/astrological/spiritual context of the life and work of Bruno & Louise Huber? We need to understand this to gain a full appreciation of their work and their system.

As part of her Masters degree in Western Esotericism, informed by her longtime interest in astrology and astrological symbolism, Sue Lewis researched the position of astrological psychology in the history of Western Esotericism and its links with astrology, psychology and modern science. We were fortunate to be able to work with Sue to publish her book Astrological Psychology, Western Esoterism and the Transpersonal in 2015.

The result is a comprehensively referenced work that provides a very readable overview of where ‘astrological psychology’ fits in to its wider context.

Huber Biography

An entirely different perspective was provided by the Huber biography Piercing the Eggshell: The Hubers and their Astrological Psychology, which Joyce and Barry Hopewell researched, collated, wrote and published in 2020.

It tells the story of the young Swiss/German Bruno & Louise Huber, who met in 1952 in Stuttgart. They were immediately attracted and discovered a common passion for psychology, spirituality and astrology. They wanted to change the world in these areas, and soon married with that in mind. This book tells of their explorations into astrology and the human psyche, particularly with Professor Roberto Assagioli, the founder of the transpersonal psychology known as psychosynthesis, and how their ambition was eventually realised through the establishment of the Swiss Astrological Psychology Institute and international schools in the English- and Spanish- speaking areas of the world.

Their new astrological psychology represented a revolution in astrology, and a new approach to psychological and spiritual development. Their collaboration with Assagioli resulted in major new insights into the relationship between astrology and psychology. The Hubers’ revolutionary coloured birth chart became an aid to psychological and spiritual growth, enabling the piercing of the shell of the habitual ego towards a more spiritual way of life.
