The Saturn-Neptune Conjunction

We are currently into a conjunction of Saturn and Neptune, roughly from March 2024 to May 2027. Dates of exact conjunction are 29 June 2025, 06 August 2025, 20 February 2026. All three occur at 0° Aries, the “world axis, associated with major global or initiatory shifts”¹ – also known as the zero point of the zodiac².

Who can doubt that our world situation is ripe for profound change, the stirrings of which we see today in economic, political, environmental and social turbulence across the world.

Saturn is of course the planet of forms and structures, contrasting markedly with Neptune’s mists and confusions. Apparent contradictions here are resolved if we look at these planets operating at the highest level³. At Saturn’s highest level we can expect well-founded structures and dignity. Neptune’s highest level corresponds to unity and universal love.

Rick Tarnas’s magisterial book Cosmos and Psyche characterises Saturn Neptune periods as follows⁴:

“A characteristic motif of Saturn-Neptune eras is a heightened tension and dialectic between ideals, hopes and beliefs on the one hand and hard realities of life on the other… can express in the form of heightened conflicts between [polarities such as] religion and secularism,… red and blue states,… each side perceiving the other to be living in a state of delusional self-deception…”

Not a bad characterisation of the current era!

The Astrodienst July newsletter⁵ addresses this conjunction similarly:

“The conjunction of Saturn and Neptune heralds a turbulent phase. Complex and often chaotic processes begin now, which are particularly visible in collective events. The underlying theme is a deep conflict between ideal and reality. Collective dreams, expectations, and hopes that no longer relate to reality lose their justification and dissolve. This also includes social consensus about right and wrong. Social and political structures that lack support can come under severe pressure or even collapse, especially where people have long been disappointed or systematically deceived. Like a dam bursting, a small weak point could quickly lead to the collapse of the entire structure.

Paradoxically, the positive side of this quality of time includes the current disillusionment. The dreams that are now dissolving leave behind the space in which the new zeitgeist – a new collective myth – can manifest itself. This relates to Aries’s life-affirming, dynamic, strong-willed, and pioneering qualities, as well as its impatient, fanatical, and warlike shadow sides.”

Is it too fanciful to suggest that we are challenged to work through a period of confusion towards producing a new world order based on respect for all individuals and peoples?
