Oh Israel, when will you learn?

Given the current catastrophe in Gaza, I took a look at the chart of the formation of the State of Israel, which I once wrote about in an article in the magazine Conjunction.

Just look at the natal chart. Some salient features jump out.

Formation of the State of Israel at 1637 on 15/5/1948 in Tel Aviv.
Showing Natal and Nodal Age Points at 20/3/2024.

The chart is dominated by a retrograde Large Learning Triangle. Retrograde triangles indicate a lesson that has to be learned, but is not learned for a number of iterations. The same mistake keeps being repeated and the lesson is not learnt. The parallel is clear, with Israel’s repeated attempts to solve their ‘Palestinian problem’ by force, subsequently and inevitably being faced by similar circumstances a few years later.

The current Age Point is shown on the chart. It recently passed over the South Node, is now around the Low Point, and is approaching the Sun. The current Low Point suggests an opportunity for Israel to dig deep within, to a spiritual level below that aggressive national ego, and work towards a just settlement with those with whom they appear to dispute ‘ownership’ of the land. The subsequent passing of the Sun could signal a new identity that has reached an accomodation with its neighbours.

This is of course the second time that the Age Point has passed through this configuration in the first house. The first time, 72 years ago, it was still amid the turmoil of the original seizure of the land from those resident in 1948. Echoes of those early events still reverberate at regular intervals. (See our book The Second Time Around for a discussion of the significance of such 72-year echoes.)

Another key point that is apparent in this chart is the presence of the conjunction of Saturn/Pluto and the Moon on the MC, the highest point of the chart. Imagine the lowest levels of Pluto and Saturn with that very exposed Moon child still suffering the trauma of the holocaust. Do not these intermingled qualities of drastic explosivity, fixity and neediness correspond with what we see of the collective personality of Israel in these times?

The Nodal Chart gives further insight.

Nodal chart, showing nodal AP.

The same conjunction, in reversed order, still sits over the MC in this chart. Now, the Moon Node Chart indicates what we brought into this life, the karma, if you like, that is to be resolved in this current existence – in this case, perhaps related to the earlier persections of Jews through history. The repeated problem faced by Israel will only be resolved when it learns the lesson of the retrograde triangle and begins to operate with the higher energies of Saturn, Pluto and the Moon – transcendence to a stable and friendly co-operation on their shared land with their neighbours. (Dare I say it – moving from the ‘eye-for-an-eye’ mentality of the Old Testament to the ‘treat others as ourselves’ mentality of the New Testament.)

Although these words put the emphasis on Israel’s change of heart, they are precisely reflected in the equal need for change in Palestinian hearts. This chart is also that of the formalisation of the trauma of the Nakba. It is surely a truism that, ultimately, peace can only ever come about through partnership of the two.

I suggest that this cursory glance at the charts shows up some remarkable correlations with the current reality, and points to the only way of reaching a resolution and ‘solving’ the problem of that retrograde triangle, which was that caused by the forming of the State of Israel by force of arms and displacement of populations.

Notes

As noted in my original article, there was contention on ‘birth time’ between 4pm
and 4.37pm. The latter was recommended by Lois Rodden.

You can read more about learning triangles in Aspect Pattern Astrology, and about Age Point in Life Clock.

Can we actually apply astrological psychology to States, as well as to individuals? The Hubers certainly did this from time to time, and this exercise suggests that the results can be valid, particularly in the context of a smallish and pretty homogeneous population such as that of the State of Israel.

Thanks for such an interesting article! Looking at the Nodal Chart with Pluto/Saturn/Moon conjunct at the MC, it also struck me that this perhaps relates to the very birth of Israel itself as being the ‘promised land’ granted by Jahweh. An innate sense of superiority and power by divine right. As the Israelites were led by Moses to their promised land, they encountered the indigenous population – the city states of Canaan. And the Book of Deuteronomy (Ch.1 & 2) tells us that God’s chosen people “took all the cities at that time, killing the inhabitants of them, men, women and children. We left nothing of them”. Recent archaeological exploration of this area has indeed uncovered evidence of a large number of destroyed towns and cities relating to late middle Bronze Age, which links to the timing of the Exodus. (my source for this is: ‘The Hiram Key’ – C. Knight & R. Lomas).

    1. Wow, that’s an interesting comment, Trish. The roots of the conflict clearly go way back, so maybe that retrograde learning triangle has existed for a long long time!
