21 Years of the Hopewell/Huber books – Part 2

The Huber Books

Barry Hopewell

Recap. By early 2005 we had established our little publishing outfit HopeWell, and published our first two books, available from booksellers and Amazon.

With the ending of Samuel Weiser’s period as publisher of the Huber books, there was a varying urgency to establishing further Huber titles on our platform, depending on stocks held at that time by the English Huber School bookshop.

Moon Nodes
Moon Node Astrology

Bruno & Louise’s Moon Node Astrology was published late 2005, with minimal changes from the Weiser edition.

Life Clock
Life Clock

The book on the Life Clock presented a different challenge. It had been printed in English by Weiser in two volumes. We wanted to cut this down to a single volume, without loss of significant information. This involved major editing and a new cover design. Life Clock was completed and published early 2006.

The Planets
Planets

In parallel with this, there was a new Huber book on the planets, that had been recently published in German. We again engaged Heather Ross to translate the text. The Planets and their Psychological Meaning was completed and published January 2006.

Astrological Psychosynthesis

Bruno’s book Astrological Psychosynthesis was published, with minimal changes from the Weiser edition, a couple of months later.

Astrology and the Seven Rays
Seven Rays

The English Huber School, or API(UK), had been instrumental in documenting the last joint seminar given by Bruno and Louise in Britain, on Astrology and the Seven Rays, in Devon in 1998. The Hubers had used this transcript to create their own book in German. We published Astrology and the Seven Rays in English late 2006.

Transformation
Transformation

There had been a further Samuel Weiser book, published under the title Astrology as a Spiritual Path, which had been based on an earlier third German volume of Life Clock. Louise and Michael finally republished this work in German under the title Transformationen, which we then mirrored in the new English publication Transformation: Astrology as a Spiritual Path in 2008.

The Astrological Houses
Houses

Last, but not least, we published The Astrological Houses in 2011. Although this had been the first and best-selling Weiser book, there had been less urgency for us to reprint, because the APA Bookshop had retained a significant stock of the Weiser edition.

We had now completed the full set of the Hubers’ books on Astrological Psychology.

Colour edition
Aspect Patterns 2

As already mentioned, colour is a major feature of Huber charts and particularly the aspect pattern. Over time, the cost of colour printing through print-on-demand gradually came down. By 2019, it had become economically viable to publish a new edition of Aspect Pattern Astrology with full colour illustrations and a new cover. This version was also made available in hardback.

Aspect Pattern Astrology is our current best-seller.

Missed opportunities

Louise’ separate book Reflections and Meditations on the Signs of the Zodiac had been separately published by the American Federation of Astrologers in the US, but we considered this to be a rather poor translation. We obtained permission from Louise to edit and republish the book through our platform, but could not agree terms with AFA, so gave up the project.

Also, we made no attempt to translate Bruno’s Astro Glossarium, an unfinished encyclopedia of astrology. Unfortunately, Bruno’s untimely death meant that the second German volume of this work was never produced.

Ebooks

Note that we never considered publishing any of the Hubers’ work as ebooks, as Michael Huber was opposed to the idea.
